On September 1, we had the pleasure to celebrate the 98th birthday of one of our most cherished members, Doris Stevens. Doris has been a vibrant part of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church for the past 11 years, bringing her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering faith to our community.
A former teacher with a Master’s degree, Doris dedicated 30 years to educating 5th and 6th graders. Her passion for teaching and her commitment to her students earned her the prestigious Teacher of the Year award in Connecticut.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Doris has been a dedicated member of our church. She has served on the Vestry, led the Altar Guild, and served as a Reader, contributing significantly to the spiritual life of our congregation. And of course we are always inspired by her incredible taste in fashion!
Doris’s family history is as rich as her spirit. Her grandfather was a Pastor at the Swedish Congregational Church in Norway, and she grew up in the Baptist faith. Her love for travel has taken her to 50 countries, enriching her life and broadening her perspective. She has three children. Her son is a well-known Artist in Washington DC, and one of her daughters works in the fashion industry in South Carolina. Her other daughter lives in Brecksville, and she was the one who convinced Doris it was time to leave Connecticut and move closer to family.
As we celebrate Doris’s 98th birthday, we are grateful for her presence in our lives. Her kindness, her unwavering faith, and her zest for life inspire us all. We wish her a very happy birthday and many more years of joy, health, and blessings.
Very happy birthday 🎊
Happy Birthday to a wonderful Lady! Doris has always helped when ever needed. She helped by being a reader at Wayne’s funeral just 3 years ago. She is Loved by All the congregation. Thank you for all you do for us and St. Matthews!
