In Cleveland, the number of unhoused individuals is expected to double to over 3,000 by the end of 2025.  For these people, the Bridge Street Outreach program stands as a beacon of hope. A division of the non-profit organization LIFT, this vital program takes to the streets and under the bridges of Cleveland to provide essential resources and build relationships with those experiencing homelessness.

Every Saturday, the dedicated Bridge Street Outreach team offers a hot, nourishing breakfast. This isn’t just a meal; it’s an act of compassion, providing a sense of dignity and care to those who often feel forgotten. The team serves hot coffee or chocolate alongside a homemade egg casserole, meat, fruit, and pastries. More than just sustenance, this weekly gathering creates a space for connection and community.

Beyond the meals, the team members listen to the stories of the people they serve. They understand that homelessness is a complex issue with many contributing factors, and that building trust and understanding is crucial. By developing relationships, they can better assess individual needs and connect people with the support resources they require.

The Bridge Street Outreach program is a testament to the power of human connection and the importance of meeting people where they are. In a city facing a growing crisis of homelessness, this program offers a lifeline of hope, demonstrating that even in the darkest of times, compassion and support can make a profound difference.

At St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Brecksville, we believe that our faith calls us to serve those in need, and we see the face of Christ in the faces of those served by Bridge Street Outreach.  We have many care packs of snacks and water, which can be kept in your car and given to individuals in need rather than cash. These are available on Sundays until the supply runs out, and we encourage everyone to pick up a few.
