Palm Sunday marks the beginning of holy week and commemorate Jesus triumph, full entry into Jerusalem. As we enter into this sacred period, we invite everyone to join us at Saint Matthews as we celebrate Palm Sunday this Sunday, April 13 at 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM

During Palm Sunday, glory and grief live side-by-side. It recalls the moment described in the gospel when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a humble donkey, while crowds of people laid palm branches before him,  hailing him as their king. In this way, Palm Sunday, not only confirms Jesus as Messiah, but it describes the unique nature of his kingship, marked by humility and suffering rather than pride or earthly glory.

The service itself is both joyful and solemn.  We begin with the distribution of palms, which enables us to participate in the historical event, waving our palms as symbols of victory, peace, and eternal life.  The service then includes a dramatic reading of the Passion Gospel story, which recounts all the events leading to Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection.

Palm Sunday is a reminder of all of the paradox’s that exist within Christian life – – triumph in suffering, life in death, and glory in humility.  Holy Week invites us to examine our own faith journey more closely.

Please join us this Sunday April 13 at 8:30 or 10:00.  Whether you are a first time visitor or a long time member, we welcome all to participate in this service.  Together, we will embark on Holy Week, a time of reflection, repentance, and renewal which culminates in the joy of Easter morning.
