As we approach Labor Day on Monday, September 1st, we’re reminded of the beautiful rhythm God has woven into our lives—the balance between meaningful work and restorative rest.
At St. Matthew’s, we celebrate the diverse ways our community members serve through their daily work. Whether you’re teaching children, caring for patients, building homes, serving customers, or nurturing families, your labor matters deeply to God and to our community. Each calling, no matter how humble or grand it may seem, reflects the image of our Creator who works and rests.
This Labor Day weekend, we encourage you to embrace both aspects of this rhythm. Take time to rest—not just your body, but your spirit. Step away from the constant demands and allow yourself to be refreshed. And as you rest, perhaps reflect on how your work, in all its forms, contributes to building up God’s kingdom here in Brecksville and beyond.
For those traveling or taking a long weekend, remember that you can always join us online at 10:00 AM on Sunday via Zoom—we’re fellow travelers on this journey of faith, wherever the road may lead you.
As we honor the dignity of work this Labor Day, may we also honor the gift of sabbath rest that God has given us. Both are sacred, and both are part of the abundant life we’re called to live.
Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, we welcome you just as God created you.
