Blessing of the Animals & Operation Andrew: Two Invitations This Weekend

TV - 1

This Sunday brings two beautiful opportunities to gather, celebrate, and share life together at St. Matthew’s.

Blessing of the Animals – October 5th

The Feast of St. Francis of Assisi reminds us that God’s love extends to all creation—including the furry, feathered, scaly, and sometimes surprising companions who share our lives. This Sunday, we’re celebrating with our annual Blessing of the Animals service.

All pets are welcome (yes, all types), and don’t worry if they make a little noise—that’s part of the joy. Whether your pet is a Golden Paw Award contender (oldest pet) or a Rookie of the Year (youngest), a Pew Snoozer or a Howl-elujah Award winner (loudest), we want to meet them. We’ll even have awards for Best Dressed, Most Exotic, and the pet Most Likely to Steal Your Food (you know who you are).

Bring your beloved animals and join us in giving thanks for the gift of their presence in our lives.

Operation Andrew: Bring a Friend

This weekend is also marked as an Operation Andrew event—a particularly great opportunity to invite someone you care about to experience St. Matthew’s.

The disciple Andrew wasn’t famous for preaching sermons or performing miracles. But he did something profoundly important: he introduced people to Jesus. That simple act of invitation changed everything.

Over 80% of people come to church because a friend or family member personally invited them. This Sunday, with the joy of the Blessing of the Animals and the warmth of our community, it’s an ideal time to extend that invitation. Who in your life might you bring along—someone curious, someone searching, or simply someone who loves animals?

You’re Invited

Whether you’re a longtime member, a first-time visitor, or somewhere in between, we’re glad you’re here. And if you know someone who might enjoy a community that welcomes all of God’s creatures—two-legged and four—this Sunday is a wonderful day to bring them along.
