All Hands on Deck: Join Us for the Greening of the Church

There’s something magical about the moment a sanctuary transforms for Christmas. One minute it’s ordinary time, the next it’s ablaze with evergreen, candlelight, and expectation.

This year, that transformation happens on Sunday, December 14th at 11:00 AM—right after our 10:00 service. And here’s the thing: we need you.

The Greening of the Church is one of those beautiful traditions where ancient liturgy meets practical teamwork. Our Altar Guild has everything planned and organized beforehand—the wreaths, the garland, the poinsettias, each decoration ready for its place. When we all pitch in together, the work is remarkably quick. Last year, forty-five minutes was all it took to transform our worship space from Advent waiting to Christmas celebration.

Here’s why we’re extending a special invitation to you:

No experience necessary. No heavy lifting required. Just willing hands and a generous spirit. Whether you’re hanging a wreath, placing a candle, or positioning a poinsettia, each task matters. Each person contributes to creating the sacred space where we’ll celebrate the coming of Emmanuel together.

If you have children in Sunday School after the 10:00 service, this is the perfect opportunity to participate while your kids are engaged and cared for. One parent can stay with the children while the other joins the decorating team. It’s efficient, meaningful, and surprisingly energizing to work shoulder-to-shoulder with your church family.

There’s something about decorating the church that shifts our hearts. As we handle the symbols of the season—the evergreen that speaks of eternal life, the candles that echo the Light of the World—we’re not just making our sanctuary beautiful. We’re preparing room in our own hearts for what’s coming.

Join us on December 14th at 11:00 AM. Bring your energy, your laughter, and your helping hands. We’ll have the church ready for Christmas before you know it, and you’ll carry home the satisfaction of having prepared the way together.
