As summer draws to a close and the familiar rhythms of the school year beckon, we’re excited to gather our St. Matthew’s community for a special Blessing of Backpacks service on Saturday, September 13th at 5:00pm.
This meaningful tradition recognizes the sacred nature of learning and sends our students—from kindergarteners to college-bound seniors—into the new academic year with prayers for wisdom, safety, and joy. Whether your child is nervously clutching a brand-new backpack or confidently shouldering a well-worn companion from years past, we invite you to bring those backpacks forward for a blessing.
The evening promises to be both nourishing and purposeful. Thanks to Aladdin’s, dinner will be provided—just bring drinks, dessert, or a free will offering to share. But this gathering is about more than just our own families. We’re also collecting school supplies to donate to students in need throughout our community.
It’s moments like these that remind us why we love being part of the Brecksville community. Just as we celebrated together at Brecksville Home Days and blessed bikes on the 4th of July, this Blessing of Backpacks continues our tradition of marking life’s important transitions with prayer, community, and service.
Come hungry, come ready to serve, and come prepared to send our students into the school year knowing they carry our love and prayers with them.
